Once upon a time I couldn’t even look at his books, thinking he looked like a bald accountant – what could he possibly have to say?

A dear friend introduced me to him a couple of years ago and we have been having a love affair ever since (admittedly one sided, yet if he knew me…). So Wayne and I share almost daily as I drive trough my life – our affair mainly takes place in my car where I listen to his taped lectures which cover the past 20-30 years.

What he has to say resonates with me deeply and the constant reminders have been invaluable. As I drove to Canberra the other day he was retelling the ‘Pillars’ of ‘Mastery’.

I was grateful for the reminder. As he shares there are 4 steps/pillars to Mastering anything in life:

1. Discipline (practice)
2. Wisdom
3. Loving what you do and doing what you love
4. Surrender (letting go and trusting)

As he spoke I was thinking about Mastery in relation to our Ka Huna therapists. Certainly we all love and are passionate about what we do and are truly doing what we love so perhaps that covers Step 3. As therapists we have to constantly keep learning and evolving so we swap regularly with each other, honing our skills, learning from each other, giving each other critical feedback.

We all continue our training with our Ka Huna teacher Mette Sorensen and develop our bodywork skills and awareness with various other teachers. And we continue to learn and grow with every beautiful client we are honoured to touch. When it comes to the human body, mind and emotions the learning never stops. And we remain humble to this fact. So perhaps practice and discipline are also taken care of.

Wisdom – we interpret the world through our personal filters and its our individual life story and experience that brings forth our wisdom. All of our therapists over the years have been selected for maturity, life experience and compassion as well as ability. We strive to bring our individual wisdom to each ka huna session and to act, make choices and contribute from a place of clarity and maturity.

Lastly we must surrender to whatever happens. We should have no attachment to the outcome and we must trust that we have done our best. We are not healers yet we provide an opportunity and a space for the client to create their own healing, for them to be empowered and to let go whatever is troubling their inner life.

It is in this place that transformation can happen.

It can take years, even a lifetime to Master something. Over the years we have had quite a few practitioners whom I feel were very close. It is certainly what we all could be striving for as a Sydney Ka Huna therapist.

So I ask – What would you like to Master?

Dearest Nemara and your beautiful team, Anna and Cate!

Wowee! Lomi lomi, dancing, laughing, crying, swimming, bushwalking, talking, dreaming, feeling…..

I had pretty much left my expectations at home, I had no idea what to expect. I was excited and guilty to be having some ‘me’ time and glad to be finally makes some steps toward fulfilling my dreams and changing direction to a more natural and healing career than my present role as a Registered Nurse. 11/11/11…..

The weekend surpassed anything I imagined could be possible, its still hard to put everything into perspective and understand the shifts of both emotions and thoughts that occured?… and still occurring. I felt so loved and nourished by your supportive, encouraging, fun and hilarious staff and amazed at Carins culinary delights.

The surprises of personal development, time to think, meditation, natural surrounds, loving environment and learning such a beautiful skill put my heart at ease and has inspired me many ways to live a life that life i always dream about… but never quiet embrace. I am inspired to carry on developing many of the skills, feelings and ideas i experienced on this awesome lomi weekend. cant wait to get some new huna books and keep practising.

My family and i have all shared a few sacred and heartwarming ceremonies since, we have each chosen our huna principles to focus on and help us find our own way. I am loving sharing the lomi lomi with my family, i love the movement and flow when you know you are working from your heart.

Lomi weekend has certainly opened my heart to endless possibilities that i feel really excited about!! A million thank-you’s could not possibly be enough….. BUT THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART!!!!!!!!

Love and kisses Kyla (Nov 2011)

Raising consciousness…2012

So here we are on the brink of 2012. After so much chat, conversation, theories, debate and even a few hollywood movies it’s practically here. Last I heard the Mayan calender ended the day before 11/11/11 and since then things have gone quiet? So what is the story with 2012. After all the spiritual reading I have done over many years I will offer my personal view. Please take it or leave it…

We are in a time of change, and human consciousness has a choice to either evolve to the next level and start operating from a higher vibration or to remain as we are in the dream where material possessions, status, and duality rule the day. Should we stay on the latter path the universe will continue to present ever greater challenges in the hope that we will awake and see life for what it really is. An opportunity to be better. An opportunity to share, care, love and thrive in the knowing that we are all connected, that we are indeed all one. One with each other, one with all living beings, one with the natural world and one with the elements, the earth, the universe and spirit.

The collective dissatisfaction with how we currently live is becoming more and more apparent, slowly people are awakening and realising that of course there has to be more than this. Slowly we are realising what really matters and indeed how powerful we are. 2011 has been a time of much loss and pain all over the planet, a difficult year for many. Perhaps its a massive collective clearing prior to our collective awakening as we hit critical mass. As with the theory of the hundredth monkey as each individual wakes up we are getting closer and closer to that small percentage needed to spontaneously awaken every person on the planet?

So perhaps we are not at the end of the world as we know it but at the beginning of the world as we would like it to be… A world where we truly love ourselves and by extension each other, all living beings and this beautiful planet.

Much love, Nemara. xx

It is with much sadness that we say goodbye to three amazing Ka Huna practitioners.

CRISTINA
After 3 years, our beautiful Cristina is leaving our Ohana (family) and heading home to Italy. She has been a ray of light at the centre during her time here and a true inspiration to all her colleagues and I am sure her treasured clients. It’s a true delight for us to see how much Cristina has grown as a therapist and a person during her time at Sydney Ka Huna. It is with much resistance we let her go yet we are totally in support of her dream to open the first Ka Huna centre in Italy. (We expect that to be up and running sometime in 2012!) Perhaps one day she will return as a visiting therapist – we certainly hope so and will keep you posted. x

JULIE
Wow! Here we are 6 years later saying our goodbyes to our fantastic Julie Vulcan. Julie has been a favoured and much loved member of our team for so long – our little home of Aloha will not be the same without her. For those that don’t know, our Julie is a well known identity on the Sydney Arts scene and during the past year became the Associate Artistic Director of PACT (centre for emerging artists). Julie has combined her personal prolific arts practice with her love of Ka Huna bodywork during these past years with great commitment and skill. We miss her colourful personality already, and support her choice to step fully back into the world of Art and are excited to witness her future creations and look forward to attending those fun filled opening nights. x

MARIA
And then there’s Maria. Maria whom I had to chase to get her to come and work with us! Worth the chase… as the last 2 plus years have proven. Maria has grown so much as a practitioner and created such a loving client base it’s hard to let her go! And yet she now flys to Queensland to work with our teacher Mette Sorensen (the very big Ka Huna) where she will learn to facilitate and inspire future Ka Huna lovers and therapists. So if you miss her please book your spot on the course at highspiritsretreat.com.au and you can hang, play and learn with her. We hope that Maria will pop back in to work with us as a visiting therapist from time-to-time and its great to know she will play a significant role in spreading the joy and love of Ka Huna.

Over the past 12 years I have said goodbye to so many wonderful therapists, friends, sisters and brothers and its always a challenge to let go. However it excites me when our friends move forward in their lives for their own growth and to follow new passions or to take their current passions out into the world. And when one door closes another opens… who knows what exciting new therapists will step through the door of Sydney Ka Huna next year…

Much love, Nemara. xx
